I do have to agree that the call for recalling council members or firing the city manager leaves me with the feeling that some of these folks are being shrill and unreasonable.

I think that they just feel backed into a corner with nothing else left to do but fight.

Wouldn't it be more productive at this point to work toward a solution of how development might be made more palatable, given that the neighborhood borders the main commercial district of the city?

From what I can tell there has been no "Plan B" proposed by either side. It would be nice if maybe that would or could happen instead of just running with the only plan they have. Without a backup plan you have no plan at all.

Don't you think that maybe there should at least be a buffer zone between a commercial district and a neighborhood district (and not a little brick wall or hedge row). It seems though that the land was a buffer until a rezoning request from residential to commercial was approved. They said a 3 story building was fine but not a 5 story....I will guess not enough room for parking.

No horse in this race.Just sitting back and watching.

Recalls, firings, I'll take my ball and go home if I don't get my own way. How ridiculous!!! You accomplish nothing with idle threats. This has become so childish.
When your house butts up against the busiest road in Oak Ridge and the main road through town you have to assume the area is going to be developed with business. Where would you like to put it, on Briarcliff Road? I see no real problem with the location. Tn Bank is there. I personally think the location is prime for a hotel/motel.

In this case, the land is either owned by the developer or he has options for the purchase of the land so there is no issue about acquiring the property.

And, there has been commercial development along Brircliff Avenue (at Emory Valley Road). I, for one, would welcome a grocery store on my end of town!

UGO - used grocery outlet

I especially liked the letter in the Oak Ridger today from the lady who made money fixing up Cemestos and blames the city for her mistake of buying one next to a commercial area where a Sonic Drive-In went in. A lot of the names on these letters are those "Agin'ers" that seem to oppose everything and offer no solutions of their own.
My, a little testy are'nt we CN.. Maybe those "agin'ers" should just be lined up and mowed down. That would solve your problem. ~smile~

Whatever happened to Nancy Stanley's plans to build a shopping center anchored by a grocery store behind the Weigel's (near her Jackson Commons housing development)?

Heavens no! I don't want to mow them down! I want them to stand up and contribute to solutions.
