I think labels are silly and childish. However, if I had to use a label, I'd call myself a conservative. Here's why:

I believe in meritocracy. I believe that education is the way to get ahead. I believe that hard work should pay off.

I have worked all my adult life. I save more than I spend. I pay my debts on time. I pay my taxes.

I vote in every election. I believe in democracy.

I've been married to my first wife for nearly 31 years.

I am a proud father in a two-parent family.

I believe in the value of work and that able-bodied adults should work for a living. Accordingly, I believe all women, beginning with my wife, should have a job outside the home.

I believe the government should stay out of the private lives of its citizens, as long as their behavior harms no one but themselves.

I believe that drug and alcohol abuse, as well as tobacco use, is unhealthy and should be avoided. I believe that alcohol, tobacco and marijuana should be legal.

I believe that prostitution and sexual promiscuity are vices and should be avoided. I believe abortion, artificial birth control and homosexual activity should be legal.

I support the privatization of religion and of marriage. I believe that anyone should be free to practice their religion, so long as it does not interfere with others. I believe that governments should not offer tax exemptions to churches and should not recognize "marriage" in any other sense than civil unions for matters of visitation rights, inheritance rights and legal benefits.

I believe in freedom of speech, as long as it does not pose an immediate harm to others (e.g., crying "fire" in a crowded theater). I believe pornography that involves consenting adults should be legal.

I believe the US should be the greatest country in the world. Accordingly, I believe in universal health care, public education, public libraries and public transportation.

I believe in the value of a good education and critical thinking. Accordingly, I believe in the laws of thermodynamics, the laws of planetary motion, plate tectonics, atomic theory and evolution. Similarly, I believe in peak oil and global warming, and I believe in a role for government in mitigating the impact of these realities on society.

I am a capitalist. I recognize that the environment that creates opportunity to accumulate wealth only occurs because we all agree to play by certain rules. There can be no capital without self-sacrifice and the aggregation of labor. Thus, I understand the the government has a role to play in assuring that workers are treated fairly.

I believe in fairness. Accordingly, I believe in progressive taxation, where those who have the most money shoulder a greater proportion of paying for civil society than those with the least money.

This is hilarious! The person who wrote it obviously has never read Darwin and understands neither natural selection nor evolution.
