Anyone know what's going on? The sirens just went off and a radio station just did a test.
BTW, anyone know what we're supposed to do if something was really happening?
It's the first wednesday of the month. Happens ever month about this time. Usually later in the day though.
This is the 2nd Wednesday - they just announced over the radio that Y12 - in conjunction with the city of OR - is conducting an exercise. Nice, very nice.
Dang you're right Trina, I thought today was the 7th. Sorry.
Seriously, how are we supposed to know when to barricade ourselves in our houses if they ring the sirens all willy-nilly? I was rightly confused myself. And, Daco, the 1st Wednesday sirens go off at noon, not 9 am-ish.
Oops, oh wait, you already pointed that out, Daco. Nevermind, friend. Heh.

Don't know about OR, but in St. Louis, when the radio does a test, they always say: "If this had been an actual emergency, you would have been instructed where to tune for official information." Or some paraphrase of that.
Could be because they are trying peaceniks (sp?) in a jury trial today. They blew the warning to add a little spice.
I think they did an additional exercise because last week (the first Wednesday, at noon) they did the usual test and several sirens failed to sound. They were checking to see if those were properly repaired.
The schools were advised that it was a test, but were also instructed to follow the normal emergency procedures as a drill. They went into a brief lockdown, then back to normal.

That's what my husband told me but I thought he was making that up to keep me calm (sounds like I am a little paranoid). I was ready to grad my car keys and go get my kids from school. Even though that is the last thing they want you to do in the event of a real emergency. All's well.
