So, when is that big snowstorm going to get us? I ran across my "big foot" skis a little while ago, and was just thinking how much fun it would be if I could actually take them out and ski down the street.

I want snow.
I want Vegas. The snow is just an extra bonus. Wow, imagine it coming down at night in the lights of the strip. What a sight to see.

That would be really fun.

Notice I put this topic in the Playpen. Smile

Uh, Mike, those links are talking about local weather. Global warming concerns climate change.

The population of St. Louis city has fallen over the last 30 years. I wouldn't conclude that the human population on the planet had stopped growing.

I really can not speak about the population of St. Louis nor am I concerned with the world's population growth as I do not see that being a problem. When we get too many people, some with starve to death or die of disease and it will decline.

Funny, those local "climate" stories are being reported all over the world. Funny that the world average temperature is the lowest in 10 years. Funny how the Arctic icecap is growing. You probably know I am not a believer in global warming. More and more climate scientists and physicists are supporting the inclusitivity of such a phenomenon but it is not man-made. Other than using multiple megatons of nuclear weapons man has no power to cause such an effect on Earth as some scientists (though who should continue to investigate climate change) and politicians claim (the same politicians who refuse to curb their own abuse of the environment by flying in private jets and riding in large SUVs).

I was actually trying to be funny with the post. At the same time there is nothing wrong with questioning unproven scientific theories (similar to questioning the unproven theory of evolution). OK, that was a joke but I couldn't resist.

Stay warm in St. Louis and do not fall in the snow. We are warm here in Oak Ridge this week as we have had a small bout of warming. Smile Be happy and smile.
"Funny that the world average temperature is the lowest in 10 years. Funny how the "Arctic icecap is growing."

Actually, no, it is not. In fact, the Northwest Passage is open for shipping.

"You probably know I am not a believer in global warming."

It really doesn't matter to me what you "believe." The facts clearly demonstrate that the planet has been growing steadily warmer over the past 50 years. There is a broad scientific consensus around this conclusion. The only scientific question is to what extent the global warming that is taking place is anthropogenic.

"More and more climate scientists and physicists are supporting the inclusitivity of such a phenomenon"

No, actually that's not true either, Mike. There are no scientific bodies that question whether global warming is a reality. The efforts to predict how much warmer it will get, how fast, and how much can be affected by human activity are subjects of scientific debate.

"Other than using multiple megatons of nuclear weapons man has no power to cause such an effect on Earth"

LOL! There is no evidence for such an assertion. On the other hand, there is much data suggesting that human activity can cause climate change. The magnitude of the effect, and whether reducing anthropogenic greenhouse gasses can reverse the warming is controversial.

Here is a current story that shows that climate does not monotonic change in all local weather.
Good catch, CN. Here's a quote from your link that flatly contradicts Mike's assertion that the Arctic ice cap is growing:

"Summer 2007 set a record low for sea ice in the Arctic, threatening reindeer, walruses and polar bears and opening shipping lanes above the Arctic Circle, the report said. This summer's ice melt was only slightly smaller.

"There has been a massive loss of sea ice starting in the 1990s,'' said one of the authors, James Overland, an Arctic expert at the Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory in Seattle. "In 2008, we've lost so much multi-year old ice, it's very difficult for the ice cover to go back to where it was 20 years ago.''"

Sorry 73. Yoy "might" be good in your field but you are not a climatologist. Neither am I. Looking at tyhe last years alone is not statistically sufficient or scientifically accurate. Physicist engaged in proper scientific research consider the whole body of evidence. While not as detailed as recent scientific data, there is climate data back to at least 1400 AD and ancient writings bear mention of climate cycles.

I really do not desire getting into a pi__ing contest and you can't always have the last word because you know why - I ain't in one of your classes at the junior college. LOL And besides when God created me, he gave me a brain with a high IQ like you so I can reason for myself. I am willing to accept climate change (notice Gore and the UN had to change from "global warming") if the data shows that in a couple hundred more years. Maybe evolution will be scientificaaly proven by then too - if there are any humans left.

Your volley friend. Smile
