I got a call from a friend who was in General Sessions Court in the county. She said Layton was in rare form. There were a group of officers in the courtroom for hearings, the prisioners were there and so was the public. He pointed with his finger at the officers and said and I do not quote I hate all of you. Then proceeded to tell the officers that they could kiss his cheeks. He then pointed to the large cheeks on his face. My friend said she knew exacty what he meant and it was kiss my ares but he covered himself. Now, my question is how can he be objective in cases where police officers have to testify if he hates all of them? She said she was embarrased for the officers and it took away their credibilty with prisoners sitting right there listening to a so called judge talk to them that way. These men are hired to put their lives on the line for us every day and do not need to be degraded in front of other people. If he had a problem with one of the officers he has an office where he could talk to them privately. No human being deserves to be treated with that type of disrespect.
Isn't there somewhere you can go where judges are accountable like attorneys are? I know it would be difficult if you had to be in his court all the time to do that but someone has to come forward or it will just continue going on.
They're SUPPOSED to be accountable at the ballot box (Layton was up last August), but if I remember correctly, the outcome of that election is questionable and working its way through the courts now.

Also saw on the front page of an out-of-state newspaper that Sandra Day O'Connor told the National Governor's Association that judges should all be elected on a nonpartisan basis. No Republicans, no Democrats... just people putting forth their credentials. I agree.

Judicial offices are tough for voters, since they have different rules regarding how they can campaign, how they can set forth ideas that set them apart from others, etc. Many people don't pay a lot of attention to the rulings unless they're somehow involved or know someone who is. It's unfortunate, but I haven't figured out how to make it better.

Just hope that the courts send this one back for a re-vote, and work hard for the challenger.
I'm with you Netmom. Hope we get the opportunity to take it to the polls and let all the people speak.
You will surely get a chance next election cycle. Quit whining about a lost election
That's for the courts to decide whether there is a lost election or not, not you.
nO, IT IS FOR THE PEOPLE TO DECIDE, WHICH THEY DID. ONE COURT CASE HAS ALREADY BEEN LOST ON THIS SUBJECT. wHAT IS THE PROBLEM? dO YOU WANT COURTS DECIDING ELECTIONS WHEN THEY DON'T GO YOUR WAY?
Who are you addressing Emile? Poison Ivy or Al Gore?
(Sorry, I couldn't resist the cheap shot.)
DACO, you know who I am addressing: Poison Ivy of course
I do agree with Netmom and Poison Ivy that local elections should be Non-partisan. It just makes sense.
