I have read three different articles today saying that the GOP does not think the journalists are being fair to Palin? Get real here. This isn't a tea party it is a national election. Since when have journalists been fair to anyone. If you want to run with the big boys you better be able to take it. She should not be treated any different than any man. We as women wanted equality and we got it. Now don't pamper us because we are women. I didn't hear anyone yelling when the journalists were attacking Clinton. If you can't handle it get out. My goodness we have to watch what we say as not to be called racist because we have an african american candidate now we have a girl and we need to be sweet and nice. What is this?
I agree, PI. She does not appear to be very well vetted for a governance role (political one, yes). Besides since she is not well known, the media must perform the vetting for the people. It appears that a lot of concern by the campaign just might result from their rush to nominate. But that is their problem, isn't it?

I believe Guiliani made quite the argument that the media is being biased WRT Palin - when has the press ever questioned a male candidate's ability to both hold office and raise his children?

Most maternity leave is 8-12 weeks, not 2 days. Just because she was a governor doesn't change biology. If you don't believe a mother has a special role with her newborn then I guess they can imprint with whomever they encounter.
Trina:

Guilliani calls it bias I call it human nature. Come on, that is so stupid and grapsing at straws and being a cry baby. He didn't have a problem with them attacking Hillary. Oh, forgot that is a different party so different rules apply. I guess women are generally the caretaker. That is why they call it maternal. You can't pick and choose when you call foul. A foul is a foul no matter which party. If this had been someone other than a right wing candidate wow they would be all over her for leaving a 2 day old down syndrom baby (if that is true). Newt would have had a field day with that. Now, there are two jewels to be discussing great family values, Guillian and Newt. Boy, wouldn't you love to be in a relationship with them. Great role models. One, a wife beater and one who defaults on child support and serves his ex divorce papers while in ICU while recovering from cancer surgery. They should talk about how women are being treated unfair.
Watching bits of the convention both last night and the night before, I ended up falling asleep before the speeches were over. It was too hard to follow what they were trying to say, with the crowd roaring after every third word. Although I didn't watch the Dem convention, it was probably very similar. Such a display was undoubtedly for the benefit of the many television cameras, and it detracted from the event.

The media -- television in particular -- has made American politics into a bizarre circus (except I've never seen such discourtesy at a performance that people actually pay to see). I think what may be seen as "unfair scrutiny" upon Palin may actually be just the media honing in on a new act that is different than what we've seen before. This time, the pretty girl is taming the tigers instead of riding on the white pony, which is what we've seen before.

Fact is, she's actually lived something more like the real life that most of us do, much more so than the three senators (McCain, Obama, or Biden). She's proven herself capable. None of us would stand up to the kind of vetting dished up by a scandal-hungry press, so that has to be taken in context.

No, actually the Democratic Convention was very exciting. Obama's speech reached more than 25% of American households.

Oh. So the Dems were very excited, but didn't cheer or make any noise? Hard to believe.
Turns out that the RNC's last night reached a bit more than the DNC's if you don't count PBS and a few other outlets. I think Sarah Palin made the difference. Now the question becomes, were the Republican viewers disappointed? The polls may give us some insight.

And Sarah's had just as many viewers and nearly twice as many as obiden.

Makes sense to me. People are trying to figure out what McCain had in mind since they had never heard of her. Of course, we could learn more if she ever has a press conference.
