This might be a good place to talk about other features of Sarah Palin's political landscape including Trooper Gate, Alaska Independence Party membership, and so on...
I would start a similar thread about Senator Obama's experience, but no one would have anything to post there either.
It is hard to discuss someone you know so little about. Some questions I have are how often has she traveled overseas? What type of experience does she have besides being involved with Alaska? What kind of experience on an International level? I have read all I can read but all it talks about is her daughter and the fact that she became republican after being an independant for two years. Oh and of course about the state trooper thing. There has to be more to this woman, good and/or bad, than we are being told. Maybe time will reveal more.
Not having a past seems to be good quality in Washington DC these days. Give it time Ernestine. I'm sure we will be swimming in Palin information soon.
Hijacked again by Justme.

Some background on what a good guy this state trooper is, here. He was suspended for that string of goodies; making death threats was probably why he needed to be fired.

If the commissioner of safety wasn't darned uncomfortable with that -- enough so to deal with the situation -- then he needed to be fired too.

Every once in a while, we have to log in to the "national issues" page just to 1) sharpen our arguments, and 2) remind ourselves that we're not all thinking in unison. That's what I like about it -- we battle fiercely in one thread, and support each other in the next. The players all change allegiances depending on the discussion.

If it were boring, none of us would be here.

These offenses are years old and were settled with this suspension. Perhaps double jeopardy crossed the commissioner's mind. Firing him would have been like his winning the lottery. Clearly this letter does not justify the requested firing.

No double jeopardy; the suspension was for actions that took place before the death threats. For the sake of comparison, the Tennessee state trooper who was running unauthorized background checks was fired today.

In other matters, New Republic has a good roundup on Palin.
Just for a little clarification. Tennessee Civil Service regs and Alaska regs. are probably similar but not exactly alike. That being said, the TN. Trooper was recommended for termination to the Commissioner, (appointing authority). If upheld by the Commissioner then there is another 4 steps to final termination. This came from an internal investigation from the bottom up, not the top down as in Alaska with an obivious conflict of interest between the Honorable Governor and her employee.
