...don't seem to carry the same level of respect that they did just 10 years ago.
We may be on here voicing our opinions but it's certainly refreshing to see that we're not the only ones who share the same views.
I read the article and then checked out some of the comments.

It's good to know that others in our community are concerned and wish to see more positive efforts by our fine force and it's leaders.
I'm tired of the excuse "we're over-worked and under-staffed"
I know of quite a few breakins on the east end also When the police arrived what the residents were told is we know we have a problem. Gee, this is the third one I had today in this neighborhood. We think it could be so and so. No fingerprinting was done, no follow up was done with the victims to tell them what was being done. It is as if that is just the way it is. I have had to alarm my home.
Is this another example of Oak Ridgers having expectations that the pocketbook is not capable of delivering?
I agree that there is room for improvement and we need to have high expectations. As an example, with the increased cost of fuel have we ever increased the law enforcement budget to make sure patrol cars are patrolling? If the cost of fuel has doubled, then it only stands to reason that half the patrols are occuring.
Not so,Eric. The Chief has said that the cost of fuel will NOT reduce the frequency of patrols. You'll have to come up with another excuse.
I and others on my street received a card in our mailboxes from the Roane County Sheriff's Office stating that an officer had "checked your home" at 3:00a.m. a few days ago. Very impressive, proactive move on their part. I wonder how their area of responsibility and size of police force compares to our city's.
Hope you called the Roane County Sheriff and verified this was valid. It seems funny they would put a card in to tell you they were doing their job. That's a new one. Check it out.
I don't know how the police can prevent crime from happening, except that visibility is a deterrent. It's good to know that RCSD is helping out from that standpoint.

It's not an excuse, but a simple observation of the expectations and history of this community. If the patrols are not being reduced, then something else in the law enforcement budget is being reduced to cover higher fuel costs. Anyone managing a fleet is facing the same issue these days. Most add a fuel surcharge to the bill.
Oak Ridgers do tend to have champagne tastes on a Schlitz budget. Then they blame everyone else when their expectations aren't met.

I think it was very creative. Kudos to them. You know they were there.

What a load of crap. Schlitz budget my arse. Have you looked at the what we pay in property taxes in this city compared to all of the cities in Tennessee? Didn't think so.

The citizens of this city are paying plenty, maybe it's time for our city leadership, not only city council, to consider getting the job done. Period. If the job isn't getting done at the current budget level, maybe it's time for some new department managers in this fare burg.
I vote we start with the leadership of the police department.
