"Well the times they are a changing"......If the former director of the SNS and current lab director can have an earring, then maybe a small nose ring is the next step. I think that this next generation of professionals will have much more freedom than what most of us on here have experienced. As for me, my nose is far too warty for an ornament.
Have you folks lost your minds? This is so simple! If she is hot, she gets to keep her job. If not....... out the door!
I think it is perfectly fine. Diversity is what makes this nation great.

I recall some pretty long hair on male teachers in the '70s. I don't think it mattered then, and piercings (or tattoos) don't matter now.

...and yes I wouldn't be happy with my child having a teacher with a ring through her/his nose (or anything else that my little darling can see). Call me close minded.

Close minded indeed!

No, Emile. If she CAN TEACH, she gets to keep her job.

I am sorry Merlin, your guess is wrong. I know the teacher in question and she had the nose "diamond" when she hired in. The teacher also works as a coach for the High School. In the three years she has been a teacher for Oak Ridge, I have never seen her without it. Nose ring aside, she is a good teacher.
Just for curiosity sake, would a teacher with a tattoo that was visible be an issue also?

Well, dang JC. I should have looked in my crystal ball after all. But then we ARE a diversified school system, a school asst. director who home schools his children, a football coach who has cursed students and shoved an asst. coach from a visiting school and a new $61m high school. Yes, diversified we are...LOL

And if the teacher can do it, the students can do it. But I'm with Daco, just glad my kids are out of school.
