I was at a meeting where the beginning of this study was talked about. The council members supported this and wanted it not to be just a study of what could be done but also to have direct recommendations for action. O'Connor supported that as well so I expect good results and wide support.

"By next spring, a city board hopes to have recommendations ready that could allow Oak Ridge to be more energy-efficient, reduce consumption and emissions, and save money."
Sounds like a great idea to me Snidely. Especially the...."blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah..and save money." part.

Everyone should conserve energy and especially government entities but it should be balanced against cost versus benefit, and where has the "green plan" been for the past 50 years?
Have you noticed the inflation of the costs of energy recently? I think that is why we are focused on it now as opposed to 50 years ago. Reducing what we spend on oil based energy is imperative. Did you notice that ORNL just announced a ~$90M contract as part of their greening of the labs per a mandate from President Bush? They expect to save a bundle.

Industry has the most work to do and the most to gain. There is reluctance to do anything because it takes too much time to see a return on the investment. Have to keep that stock price up. Hopefully energy prices will cause them to re-think.
I'm glad to see the city doing something.
