As a senior I have always considered myself a mentor and hoped to help younger adults make positive decisions but this Phil guy said it is not good to mix the seniors with students. "That's not a good mix". What a stupid remark. Makes me want to run out and give the seniors whatever they want. That explains their problem with the Civic Center. They want to isolate themselves.
These folks need to figure out a way to build their own damn clubhouse. Given the current economic environment in Oak Ridge, and the rest of the country for that matter, it makes no sense at all for the city to pay a million bucks to RSCC or to anyone else for a senior center.
Let these crybabies raise money and build whatever they want. This is getting old.
If they want to dance the neighborhhod watch can transport them to Cottoneyed Joe's or they can go on the Ellen show. It is a lot cheaper than building a center for that reason.
Not a bad idea. It will also give them something to do.
Maybe we could have a Hokey-Pokey Festival to help them raise some money.
This may be a ridiuculous question, but why can't RSCC donate a room for the seniors? With all the donations that have been received to that campus, and one notable donor that I know being a senior, it would seem to me that the college could be of assistance here. Besides, many seniors have supported the college through paid classes like ORICLE. I think it would be a great thing for the seniors to mingle with the students. I bet many of the seniors in this community would be qualified to tutor the students. There might even be a federal grant that could offset the cost of the donated room.
