After seeing the crowd at the fireworks I started to think. It might be a good idea to either end or kick off the Secret City Festival with a fireworks display being shot off from the City Center. When the last concert ends have fireworks. I know this is an expense but it could possibly be done through donations.

Also, expand the 4th celebration and make the lake festives an International Festival and run it all day down by the lake. All food should be ethnic and bring in traditional groups that either sing or dance ethnic. I think this could draw large crowds from surrounding areas and bring revenue into our area. Make it a community project. We have a lot of international groups in this area.
ernie you have a good thought there ,, good luck
The City Center is not public property, is used for parking, and in finding shooting sites, the owners that I have approached are extremely hesitant to accept what they consider to be considerable liability associated with fireworks. Both the City and the fireworks vendor carry a million, and one owner I talked with this year wanted five million.

The High School and Bissell Park are the two remaining sites, and the High School is used for parking.

I don't like to criticize anyone's ideas, but fireworks in Bissell Park anytime during Secret City Festival would be nearly impossible logistically. Minimum separation of spectators and fireworks is 70 feet per inch of fireworks diameter. The smallest we shoot is 3 inches, 210 minimum radius, and 3 inchers are not that impressive, but six inchers are! The separation radius, from past years, extends to the area of the stage. I have been approached by a council person about doing this, but I see no practical way to set up the shoot (a task best performed in daylight) control the crowd, clear the area, shoot the show, and maintain the area (to clear the "duds"). Every shoot that I have worked has had complaints about "fallout," and I have extended my radius to 500 feet.
What about shooting from inside the track at ORHS? It's secure inside a fence. Kingsport does this at Funfest. And as far as "fallout", I've experienced this and my opinion is it adds to the show.
Chief:

Where did you shoot them off two years age? we could use that as a place to shoot them off to start off or end the Secret City Festival. As for the 4th leave them at the lake. The surroundings are perfect for the 4th firewworks.
E, I think they were shot from the City Service Center two years ago, because I watched from the TNBank parking lot. This location wouldn't serve the Secret City Fest very well, as people really couldn't see them over the hill and trees.

Before that, they were fired from the hill where ORAU has a new building nearly finished, so that spot is no longer available.

It would be great fun to have fireworks as part of Secret City Fest, but the logistics do seem to present a problem.
Why not drop ping-pong balls from a helicopter? They could number each one, sell them for $5.00 each and the ball that makes it closest to the target would win the jackpot.
Thanks Netmom that expains the situation. Good idea but not possible.

That's all we need is to have a helicopter crash.

Gloom and doom strikes again.

I bet you scare yourself when you get up in the morning.
