DFET is a grass roots movement and they are liberal. I know JustMe that is like the kiss of death to you but they do have a purpose just like the right wings. They help the middle of the road people by their existance. With both the extremes it makes the middle realize how normal they are and they balance the two extremes. One thing I learned years ago, radical (whichever side) does bring about change but I can't say it is always for the good.

Change or the status quo, middle of the road, political compromise. The American way, 3/5th compromise, Missouri Compromise, The Virginia/New Jersey Compromise. They all work or worked for a while.

It's VERY difficult to keep people within their "imaginary box" at events such as this. You're always going to have the stray ant trying to push it's point by drifting from the pack.
I think it's OK to have an opinion, I don't believe that it's right to step in someone's path and push the issue. When we vote, there are people who work the polls. You can choose to stand and chit-chat with them or keep walking. They aren't allowed to cross "the line" and don't.
I don't think that it's right to bombard those coming to the Fesitval as soon as their feet hit the pavement of the event grounds. Here fine folks travel from around the area to come to our town and get opinions thrown in their face right away. There needs to be more control at this event. I parked behind the Municipal Building and came down the hill. I saw others park by Tinseltown, walk across the street and as soon as they got "within range", they were approached to join The Rush, US Army, PETA, Pro-Life, East TN Democrats, and buy a few plants. There were many workers who stood under their tent and smiled, waved, or tried to verbally pitch their opinion. However, there were MANY stray ants. I whipped through and avoided the area thereafter.
I think this event needs to be reconfigured and move with the times. It's call the SCF and it's no secret that we're all opinionated, but this is supposed to be a fun event for all...

Again, the pro-life did not try to push their beliefs on anyone, not while I was watching...You are accusing based on third party hear say...
JM, I know the gentleman that WitchyPoo referenced. It really happened. One of the anti-abortion volunteers tried to pawn off a plastic fetus on a nine-year old girl: "do you want an 11-week fetus, or a 15-week fetus?" The girl wanted neither.
That's just sick. As WitchyPoo said, since parents have to sign a consent form for reproductive health to be taught in school, then the same standard should be upheld for any public events.
Just because you didn't see it, doesn't mean it didn't happen.

"maybe the kid will ask about it"..........Hypothetically speaking, JM, because I do not believe this would ever happen because pro-choice is not pro-abortion, but to drive home my point, humor me on this one....What if a pro-choice volunteer approached a young girl and gave her a coupon for a buy-one get-one free abortion? Just so "maybe the kid would ask about it". There ARE worse images on tv. Would you like to discuss this topic with your child on these terms? I don't think so, and my friend did not want to discuss the topic on the terms set up by the anti-choice advocates.

Are you saying the end justifies the means. I surely hope not.

Even if it is offensive.

I consider it offensive that PP can perform an abortion on my daughter without me knowing it but that is the law...
The Planned Parenthood website says otherwise:
Quote:
Can Teenagers Have an Abortion Without Their Parents Knowing?
In Tennessee the answer is no, except in extraordinary situations. Tennessee law requires parental consent, except in cases where a judge has determined that the parents should not or could not be involved and has allowed for a Judicial Bypass due to these extreme circumstances. Planned Parenthood encourages teens to involve their parents or guardians in issues surrounding sexual activity and/or decision making, including options surrounding pregnancy.

Judicial Bypass. That means it would have to be filed in the court and they would determine if it is an extraordinary situation.
It is your choice to be against abortion. Most pro-choice people are against abortion and I really don't think anyone looks forward to that type of decision. I don't know anyone who believes in convenience abortions. It goes back to it is about choices and who has the uterus. Do you have any idea how many women died in back alleys before Roe vs Wade? Are their lives worth nothing?
