When we were looking for a home in OR, I googled and got info on "Crime in OR". Having lived here for almost a year, I can attest to the fact that the crime here is NOT worse than any other small town....in fact, it's probably much lower. I'd much rather be here than in Knoxville - just watch the evening news and you'll see that someone gets killed in K-town pretty much every day. Also, check out Oak Ridge's Most Wanted list on youtube.com......that'll give you a good idea of what types of crimes are being committed here in Mayberry.
That matches my experience and views as well.
Make all the excuses you want. The bottom line is that I nor my friends will allow members of our families to got to Oak Ridge alone. The area arround the mall and Wally World is not safe. Clinton Highway has a Mexican problem Oak Ridge has a drug dealer/murderer problem.

Really??? A drug dealer/murderer problem? To which "murderers" are you referring. Where there murders here in the past year that I'm unaware of? I know about the one in Scarboro. Again - pretty much every city has their version of "Scarboro" - we just generally refer to them as the "projects" and common sense dicates that you just don't go there day or night.
BTW - this Walmart is no different than any other - you can get your purse stolen at Turkey Creek just as easily as you can at Wally World. Please elaborate and give specifics on the drug problem also. I'm reading the paper and most of the info there indicates a lot of DUI's or domestic abuse- not murder.
Is it Oak Ridge that's the "illegal drug capitol" or is it Anderson County? I'm watching the news and I'm not seeing a lot of drug stores getting robbed here, but I am seeing it in Knoxville.....
Now there's a solution, everyone should go packing. This is not the Wild Wild West. I would hope we are more civilized than that.

You are hilarious! Yeah, let's load up the minivan w/a few shotguns and meet up at Panera for a coffee.....
Re: which towns have lower crime rates....I honestly don't know - I'm comparing OR with other small towns I've lived in - none of which are in this area. They were all in different states. My purpose in bringing in up the topic of crime in OR was to help folks trying to decide whether or not to buy a home here.
Buy in Oak Ridge if you're looking for good schools, a nice place to raise a family and a community that's open to meeting new people.
The county is Meth and the city drugs.

Which makes it no different from any other town/county in any other state.
"Getting a carry permit and carrying everywhere gives one the best chance to protect yourself."
LOL! I can't wait until the Chamber of Commerce includes this on their home page. And realtors should be minting cash once the word gets out: You wanna be happy in Oak Ridge, you better be packin'!
How sad. I would never live in a place where I thought I had to carry a gun in order to be safe. My home town used to be a civilized place, not the Kosovo of East Tennessee.
