If you are reading the legacy of your hero "W" this is what it will say, I was successful in destroying 3 countries in just 6 short years which includes my own. My mom and dad are proud of me. I have kept their income good by driving up the price of oil and the profits of the oil companies to all time highs. My voters are now hocking all their wares so they can put gas in their car to go to work to pay taxes and keep my family living high off the hog. Please JUSTME do not get my blood boiling. I am not as eloquant as ORHS but I am tired of the American people suffering for the stupidity of a famiy who has profitted off the american people. Please don't tell me about the Clintons. I could afford food, I could afford gas and my investments did well. I don't care who he screwed sexually that is better than the way the Bush family has screwed the American people financially. I am tired of fighting his daddy's war. Don't tell me about bleeding hearts. I am not a left wing liberal but if I had a choice I would go there before I would go to the right side and hide behind God to destroy these countries. Send your children because I will not send mine. I am part of the Vietnam Era. You can't snow me. I know where we are headed and we have almost arrived. You better hope this guy has not p***** enough people off that they drop an A bomb on us. Hopefully these other countries all know we think he is as stupid as they do and it is not the citizens but the stupid leader we elected. Now, as far as what we have to choose from, I don't know if there is anyone better and I feel like I am voting for the less of 3 evils. But at least there might be some hope. That is all I have to say. I would suggest we get back on topic and that is concerning Visioning.
Your opinion of me means absolutely nothing and has no bearing on my life whatsoever. I am proud to be American just not proud of how our leaders have acted. Hopefully, we at some point will be able to regain the respect that we have lost around the world. As far as Ann is concerned, she is crazy. If I had a solution I would run for public office. Maybe there is no solution except cut the profits of the oil companies and put restraints on them. But then we would be cutting the profits of the Bush family. I don't know where you have been for the last 7 years but we have taken a drastic step backwards and that is not going to be corrected in our children's or possibly our granchildren's lifetime. I am ashamed of what we have done to this country and my heart bleeds for what our children are going to have to endure because of such mismanagement. By the way, don't be judgmental. Voice your opinion. You sound like you need to be with the Cloud and ORX with your personal attacks on posters. Attack opinions all you want but not the person who writes them. That is childish. Oh, and your choices in the upsoming election are you opinion. That is why they put the curtains on voting booths.
Remember the real purpose of this thread is it remind us of this meeting Monday evening:
Ms. Ann Coulter, Vice President of Kennedy, Coulter, Rushing and Watson, will speak at the City Council Work session on April 7, in Oak Ridge. Ms. Coulter graciously accepted our invitation to come and describe Chattanooga's renaissance over the last 30 years and how their experiences may apply to Oak Ridge.
Kennedy, Coulter, Rushing, and Watson, LLC is described as:
"a group of professionals whose passion and vocation is the revitalization of cities, with an eye toward building healthy and sustainable communities."
"More importantly, we have the reputation for moving beyond planning to determined implementation."
For more information on our speaker, please see the websites below.

The meeting will be at the City Services Complex and will begin at 6:30pm, on April 7.
"I was the first one attacked a few weeks ago when I posted MY OPINION and was called a taxophobe and it continues.."
LOL! You have stated that you *are* a taxophobe (well, "taxophone", but that's just your chronic spelling issues), and that you wear the label proudly! Now it's an "attack?"
Anything to pose as a victim, eh, JustMe?
"There are similar amounts in Alaska, North Dakota and northern areas.."
The oil in ANWR is only a drop in the bucket at current US consumption rates. It will have absolutely no affect on US energy independence. Most of the oil in North Dakota and contigous areas of Canada is in oil sands. Oil is way more expensive to extract from oil sands, and will only be profitable when oil tops $200/barrel. By then, all the SUVs and hummers will be rusting memories.
In a thread about visioning, we've gone through who is a commie and now to oil sands and little digs about SUVs, neither much related to Oak Ridge politics. Can we get back on topic?

Certainly...I was just defending Ann Coulter...just we should stay on topic...
I'm guessing that Coulter is not coming to tell us what our vision will be, but maybe to tell us how that process worked for Chattanooga and how we might employ similar strategies for eliciting public involvement and buy-in.
There are key differences, like Chattanooga's pockets of "old money" that were able to jump start some of the initiatives (like the aquarium). Still though, it's the gathering of ideas and building consensus around them that is potentially exciting. However, experience has shown that if it requires any public investment and isn't a traditional government service, it's going to incite a referendum (again).
Some of the themes are likely to be how and where to attract retail, how to make ourselves more attractive as a place of residence to those who work here, and how to expand or connect assets like our greenways, bike trails, parks, and rowing venue. However, there are undoubtedly ideas out there that I haven't heard or thought of, and that's what I'm looking forward to.
Netmom, I am not as worried about the referendum problem. If we are following the consensus of the visioning, there should be lots of support. Plus the city would probably shy away from funding by bonds just because of the possibility of another referendum. TIF financing should be in the front of the line. Even very large projects could fit that bill. For example the South Knoxville redevelopment is powered by TIF.
There is one other aspect of this meeting that is important. It is a workshop for the City Council so that they can become familiar with the benefits of a visioning exercise from examples where it actually happened. For example, the visioning can give input to the city to revise the comprehensive plan (decades overdue) which should guide the city for near to mid-term activity. It can offer guidance to other organizations too. The Chamber should be able to use these goals and action items to align their activities with those that people are looking for. Even smaller organizations like the Rowing Association will get important insights.
Not all of these ideas will be the top ones but certain groups may have to dig deeper into the list of ideas presented for those that apply to them. For example, if someone talked about how they wished they knew which organizations were in town for rowing, that might be something both ORRA and the Oak Ridger/Observer/News Sentinel might want to follow up on even though it is not a major goal or action item for the City as a whole.
There are lots of good that can come from this meeting and the visioning to be.
