"Abate" means (1) to put an end to or (2) to reduce in degree or intensity.

"Abet": (1) to actively second and encourage (as an activity or plan), (2) to assist or support in the achievement of a purpose

I think the question refers to the latter....

The whole family should be charged with insanity and put in some ward somewhere away from normal people. Hey Opus where is this poll?
