Come on guys, with all the problems the world and our country is facing, we surely don't have time to worry about if Roger Clemens used sports enhancing drugs before they were banned. Is this not a total waste of tax payers money? Are we having an inquiry about football and the use of strength enhancing drugs? If this was the Olympics and the athletes were representing our country abroad I could understand it. These are professional athletes. Handle it internally. I am now starting to think this is a personal attack on the game of baseball and some people have nothing to do with their time and our money.
Actually it is more complicated than that. Since Congress grants Major League Baseball a monopoly for their operations, they have a direct oversight role.
I agree that the effort put into this kind of investigation ought to be measured and prioritized within the real-world context.
Ok so Congress grants major league baseball and professional football passes on the monopoly thing, so what? if the athletes are stupid enough to take the drugs so be it , they'll most likely be dead within a few years from it and no one will suffer... Congress needs to keep their meddling selve out of it. Now if the leagues do something that conflicts with the monopoly thing then fine... Big Government wants to rule every aspect of our lives and we have allowed them do it.
Had some time to watch it today. If it isn't a witch hunt I'll eat my hat. The man conducting the hearings is a true idiot. Most of the senators etc. agree it is a waste of their time. This trainer belongs in criminal court. He is as sleezy as they come. Watch for his book, although he denies that he is going to do one.
If any or you think this bad and a complete waste of our tax money just wait for the elections to be completed.. We get a Democrat in office and watch themoney flow,, from our pockets to the Government , so they can provide for our needs.. YEAH RIGHT

Well said PI. So far all I've heard is a bunch of finger pointing and bickering. Come on, who keeps used medical supplies for seven years and where have they been in the interim?
How about addressing the mortgage crisis, economic issues, energy cost and availability, the war in Iraq, immigration, or any of the thousand or so other critical issues that Congress should be looking at? If HGH is so bad, why not get to work and make sure it's not available on the open market? Give me a break...
Could the government throw away any more money? What a waste of taxpayers dollars.
ernie: i agree with you... let the games begin, congress butt out and try doing the job you were elected to do.

I had to laugh when I read this bit of antique Republican boilerplate. The last time we had a Democrat in the White House, we had a balanced budget and had started paying down the national debt. With over seven years of a Republican in the White House, we've seen record deficits, record government spending (yeah, much of it "off the books") and widespread government corruption.
Take off your tinfoil hat and join us in the real world, packrat.
