I've saved all year. Today I've been working on gathering all of those little pieces of paper from the car, pulling spreadsheets on medical expenses from my computer and my receipt from paying my county property taxes from my wallet.

While sorting all of this into twelve piles, I thought "what about the sales tax incentive?!?"

I've done some searching on the net and someone PLEASE, correct me if I'm wrong, we DO get to take the SALES TAX deduction when filing long form this year....right?
Yes - and have for the last 2 years. There are some limitations and if you didn't make any major purchases, you may find that the standard deduction exceeds what you spent. It's tedious work, but can be worth it. We recouped around 15% of our total sales taxes each year.

This could be a good thread to share some little known facts for those who do their own taxes. Turbotax has been my buddy for a long time and last year they started letting you do your entire return before purchasing the right to use and file with it.
Ugh. I know I'll have to tackle it soon (to apply for the FAFSA, due long before April 15), but I can't face doing it before January 1. And yes, Turbotax is a wonderful thing.
