Why is the forum clock set an hour ahead?
I just noticed that it read 10:19, when I posted something at 9:19.
RegularGuy, the clock setting is found in the UserCP (see the link at the top, right after "Welcome back..."). From UserCP, look at the links on the left side of the page, and click EDIT OPTIONS. From there, select GMT -5 hours from the drop-down under "date and time options", and click the "Enable Daylight Savings Time correction" box. That should do it.
Having date and time options in the user settings is a bit confusing, but good question. It will make a good help topic addition.
Modette:
Well ... chalk another episode up to my ignorance.
Have a great day!
Don't feel lonesome or anything... I went a few days with the wrong time on mine, too. It was a good excuse to put up a new help doc.
Yeah, thanks to your question and Modette's answer, now mine has the correct time.
Hmm... Does this forum software allow moderators to split threads? (That's a feature that is noticeably lacking at the Oak Ridger's online forum.) This thread could stand to be split off.
For new registrants (like me) the forum clock defaults to GMT-4, which should work just fine until daylight savings time ends.
I set mine to GMT-5 and enabled the daylight savings time option. That's working OK for now. I'll see what happens when DST ends.

Yes, threads can be split.
OK, here comes some ignorance, but why split threads?
1) To see if it could be done.
2) Ellen correctly pointed out that one of the shortcomings of the other forum was that things tended to get off-topic. That doesn't mean that the new direction is necessarily a bad one, but it helps users more easily find what they're interested in if the threads are separated. The clock discussion was originally posted in "forum ideas," but the focus shifted to setting the time correctly. Both are worthwhile, but not the same thing.
Mybb allows both individual posts, several posts, or an entire thread to be moved. The fellow who suggested using Mybb possesses a high degree of technical competence and good judgment, while the rest of us are still learning. The collective goal is to have a well organized, properly moderated place for spirited but respectful discussion.
Hey! I'm more ignorant than AT!
