I can't believe the dead tree news put that "editorial" in today's news.
I can't believe that someone would vocal such negativity.
I can't believe that someone would take the time to write out such an opinion.
"Blah, blah, blah, wah, wah, wah" is all he wrote.

No wonder why we're stuck with a lack of progress in this city.
No wonder why we're stuck with a lack of progress in this city.
We're not really stuck with a complete lack of progress; we just haven't managed to achieve the rate of change that we would like. To wit, the very items he cites (the renovation of the Grove, the new high school, Jackson Square) are signs of positive change.
He just has a different vision than the rest of us. After all, he wants to be annexed by Farragut!
"I can't believe that someone would vocal [sic] such negativity."
You're obviously unfamiliar with John Job.
Look, if it were cut to 1/3 the length, and if you removed most of the self-promotion, the article has a kind of point. I grew up in OR, too, and I recall Grove Center and Jackson Square in the days when they were actual destinations. Renovating the Playhouse and turning it into a regional theater and performance arts school is a worthwhile idea.
Maybe Mr. Jobe needs to run for political office since he is so aware of what the city needs to do. I would describe him as very self serving.
Well well. Two people that I usually disagree with, and take great pride in the fact, are absolutely right. IMHO
Job is, without a doubt, a self promoting mouthy know-it-all, but he is right about Jackson Square and Grove Center.
And Doc's description of the article is spot on.
" If this city thinks Jackson Square and Grove Center are important, there has to be a major new initiative to redevelop both areas. The results would be equally far-reaching. Somebody wake up Parker Hardy. In Jackson Square, the redevelopment district should reach from Blankenship and the Alexander to the Turnpike. From Michigan Avenue to Georgia Avenue. In Grove Center, the redevelopment district should encompass ORHS, the swimming pool (with a dome and solar collectors for year-round use), the Midtown Community Center, the actually historic Emory Bridge, and a pedestrian tunnel under the Turnpike to the Civic Center."
(Standing on my desk clapping!) No offense intended Parker.
I only wish that Job would learn that you catch more flies with honey than the bile that he is becoming notorious for spewing.
Two more areas of our town to focus on Going "Green"
If you have not read the Oak Ridger editorial page today, John Job's nearly full page
wandering through his own mind should not be missed. There is a comment by Bo that sums up this nicely. Mr Job, like a lot of Oak Ridgers, believes that his opinion is right without any apparent evidence. Perhaps the visioning process would be good for him in that it would introduce him to others who have thoughts and give him a chance to join Oak Ridge, the community.
Self serving people usually like to just hear themselves talk. They rarely want to be pro-active. We know a few others like that who will not attend meetings and voice their opinions but continually B**** about everything that is wrong according to them. Maybe we need to introduce them to the Job man.
I think the guy is exactly right about Jackson Square and Grove Center. Both of these historic areas badly need attention from the city.
Ideas?
Designate both as Green Commerce Areas. We already have the Farmers Market which is awesome!
