Last Friday's loss to Farragut was not the worst loss ever on Blankenship Field as reported in the Oak Ridger, although it was close. We lost to Knoxville High in 1946, 46-0 and in 1947 to Knoxville Young 39-0. I know.. I played then. We were simply out-manned back then. That was not the case in last Friday's debacle and it raises questions and is cause for concern, in my view, for Oak Ridge sports fans.
Just my opinion.
It looked like we were out-manned to me. However that does not mean we couldn't have done better.
Only two kids from Farragut handled the ball, but one of them couldn't be tackled unless we had six guys on him. Gotta give the Admirals credit on this one: they played at the top of their game.
We weren't just "not hitting on all cylinders," I'm not sure the spark plug wires were even connected. The Farragut kids ran on and off the field; our guys were just moseying, scuffing their feet.
But, it's high school football. Teams have off nights, and we had one. Let's hope there's a little more fire in the belly this week for DB at Kingsport.
You are right NM, the spark plug wires were not even connected. The question is, why not. High school football IS a very emotional game and we should have been sky high for this game. We were a distracted team as we were before the Clinton game, almost as if we were just going through the motions.
Something is amiss here. It is more than just an off night in my view.
