I posted this in National/World News because the Oak Ridger hasn't really been local in a long time. At least the previous owners were in Georgia. The new owners will be in Fairport, New York. The "Jewel of the Erie Canal."

Not quite local. Discuss amongst yourselves.
So what?

How often do the corporate owners step in from far away, whether Georgia or New York, and dictate content?

And let's keep away from the "Yankee" terminology, unless you want to seem like a redneck.
There was no mention of whether there will be any management changes (as often occurs with such a sale). Anyone know?

I think Rummy has a point -- as long as it's corporate-owned, it probably doesn't matter where the owners are (to the extent that they're still US-based, anyway). Different corporations have different styles though, and it will be interesting to see how the new company interacts with Oak Ridge.
Do not know of any managment changes in store but replacing the current publisher would certainly be a positive move. Just my opinion.
Careful with those opinions there KR. Someone may call you a redneck if they don't agree with your point of view.
Not at all Local Boy. I was just showing you how silly labels are.
"I was just showing you how silly labels are."

Indeed. Oak Ridge was settled by non-southerners. My folks were from the northeast and I was raised in OR.

Tennessee was a border state. East Tennessee in particular was hardly a rebel stronghold, since the soil was not hospitable to plantation agriculture, and thus to slavery (which is really what the Confederacy was all about).

It's the 21st century. Only racists still care about yankees and rebels.
"Only racists still care about yankees and rebels."
Heh. Only small minded fools would think that the labels "yankee" or "rebel" would have anything to do with racism.

I am so freakin' sorry that I used the word yankee. I was attempting to make the point that the new owners of our "local" paper are no longer even related to us by region. Sorry to offend you girls.

"racists" talk about stupid labels. Only an idiot would make such a claim. The fact is that being a "rebel" has no more to do with racism than being a college professor has to do with homosexuality. Nice try though.
"I am so freakin' sorry that I used the word yankee."

Heh. Yeah, right.

"Sorry to offend you girls."

Aw, did we hurt your feelings? I didn't realize you're so delicate.

I usually call 'em like I see 'em, but in your case, I'll be more sensitive next time, "boy."
I'm pretty confused.

Local boy, try to reign in your overzealous labeling long enough stop using "girls" as an insult.

Please.

Look, you didn't like being thought of as, possibly, a redneck because you used an outdated term like "Yankee." So surely you can see that someone else might object to being called a Yankee! (Or a "girl" if "girl" means oversensitive/hysterical/wimpy/wussy/etc.) The very fact that you got offended when I made the redneck comment proves my point. You didn't like it. Others don't like "Yankee." Or "girl" if it's meant in a derogatory way.

Geez.
