Today's KNS reports that KC will receive anywhere from $200K to maybe $950K from the state in extra school funds following the restoration of some budget monies just before the legislature adjurned. Some indicate that this will save the teachers jobs that were to be eliminated due to the budget shortfall. Wonder if OR will receive anymore that could save the TA's that were eliminated or would they spend it on another fabulous electronic sign on Providence Road to match the one on the Turnpike? Inquiring minds........???

Another sign?? Are they restoring capital money?
I think the capital funds were restored, but haven't heard anything official yet. As usual, our budget is long since adopted before we get any definite numbers.
Has there been any further information on how much more money we will get and how it will be spent?
Monday night, we were told that BEP funding is expected to be more than initially estimated, but no solid numbers yet. However, this is normal; we don't get definite funding numbers from the State until July 1 (and even then, it's subject to change).
This new tax increase for Anderson County residents of Oak Ridge only does not seem right. It is like Oak Ridgers are being punished because the county has to share sales tax with the Oak Ridge school system.

Before someone bashes Lynch or current commissioner, which is fine with me, please note this proposal was made by the Anderson County school system. Oak Ridgers in Anderson better speak up.
If AC schools get their way, that will be an excellent time to put my Oak Ridge in Anderson County house on the market.
The answer to this situation is for ALL schools in Anderson County to be consolidated into the Anderson County school system. This would not only save money but increase the quality of education for ALL students. There would be much wailing and gnashing of teeth from Oak Ridge but we would learn to live with it. After all, we've learned to live with drugs, crime, and worst of all, no retail.
As much as I would like to disagree with you KR, I think its only a matter of time. There is only so much money to go around and when the county decides to punitively tax Oak Ridgers, the time to consolidate school systems draws a little closer.
Nobody is taxing anyone yet. There were many proposals put forth at the commission meeting by the AC School Administration. Some of which have not even been passed by the School Board yet. I think they were just grasping at straws to try to get what they want. I thought it was ironic that this was the only proposal Fowler wrote about. As far as consolidating to improve the caliber of education in AC what we might succeed in doing is decreasing our quality of education.
Guess it was just for effect. At
http://www.oakridger.com they have already recinded the proposal to raise the taxes in OR for AC Schools.
