Well, I have never liked Clinton, as a town, high school or anything else. After watching a very close game, I also watched the Clinton Coach take a swing at our fine coach after the game. I hope that someone has it on tape. By the time I got down to the field, it was all over. I missed out on the potential for an old fashioned brawl, but after thinking about it, I was glad our coach was able to get everyone under control. The Clinton Coach should be ashamed of himself, and go before our school board and apologize. Just another reason to believe Clintonians have very little class in their blood.
DETAILS PLEASE MISSED THE GAME. DID YOU THINK mc RETURNED TO HAUNT YOU WITH THE CAPS?
Oak Ridge people are better than that. Oak Ridgers don't judge an entire area because of a reaction in the heat of a game. If Oak Ridge had been on the receiving end of that call, and were not the victors, the reaction by Oak Ridgers would have been the same. It's the nature of sports. Sometimes it brings out the worst in people, especially when it is a strong High School rival. I have found Coach Shattuck to be an asset to high school sports and a good example for our youth. We need more role models like him.
I missed the swing, although I was there for the duration of the game. If it happened, I hope it is on tape. Everybody kind of swarmed the field in the last five seconds on the clock, so I couldn't see everything that went on.

No Ernestine, I would like to think that Oak Ridge's reaction would not have been the same... we were on the receiving end of several very questionable calls last night (one for pass interference, where the receiver had the ball firmly in both hands before he was hit), but I didn't see any signs of the coaches spoiling for a fight.

It was an excellent game, and I commend BOTH sides for the absence of vandalism the night before. I understand that both teams' coaches talked with their players beforehand, urging them to show some leadership and ask others to NOT participate in that particular tradition. As far as I know, there wasn't any, and we had a great football game.

There was a skunk wandering about on the home side during the 4th quarter, and I noted to the fellow sitting next to me that turning a skunk loose on the opponent's side would have been a whale of a prank. I'm not saying that's what happened -- we all know that skunks roam the city freely -- but if I were still in high school... let's just say it's probably best that it never occurred to me back then.

There's so many skunks in "the county" that it wouldn't surprise me if it fell out of a back pocket of one our fine county officials.....

GREAT GAME BOYS!! WAY TO GO WITH A LAST MINUTE VICTORY!

Having not been able to catch the game in person, I did tune into the Knoxville TV stations' prep extra sports programs to find a mixed message on the outcome. It seemed about 50:50 on whether Oak Ridge or Clinton made the end of the game surge to win.
Well Snidely, Clinton (and Anderson County) probably feel about us the same way you feel about them. Ever wonder why? Probably not. It would take an open mind to do that.
"Just another reason to believe Clintonians have very little class in their blood."

Yep, and your statement is a very telling example of just how much is in yours.

Personally, I've never gauged how much class a community has by their high school football program. As the man says, your mileage may vary.

I can think of 74-0 reasons.

no matter how open we may think our minds may be...
...in some ways, they will always be closed....
