After hearing that Stanton recieved a "letter in his File" I wonder if anyone knows what his tenure status is with ORS system? Why did thid not go before the Board? .Netmom, any idea?
Stevens was named head coach in
April 2005, and he hasn't come up for a tenure vote since that time. I do know that he coached at Oak Ridge prior to his time at Austin East (though I don't remember for how long), and don't know if that time counts toward his three years as an apprentice teacher here or not.
So long as there are no further incidents, the letter of reprimand would not necessarily preclude his being recommended for or granted tenure -- we'll all have to wait and see. It would probably come up in March 2009, though it could be a little earlier if he started full-time at Oak Ridge in the Spring of '05.
Other than the Clinton game, I've heard many positive things about Coach Stevens and his interaction with the students.
I hope we as a community are not looking to blackball a coach for getting emotional during a sporting event. It's the nature of the beast. I have been a Stevens supporter since the beginning and feel he has done a good job with the football team. I don't know how he is in the classroom but would suspect him to be structured and well disiplined as a teacher.
I completely agree PI. Coach Stevens did exactly what he should have done. Admitted that he did something wrong. Accepted the consequences for his actions and assured the administration that this wouldn't happen again.
This was a relatively minor infraction and the man has been punished. Time to drop it.

I agree. And I'm not a Wildcats fan.
Football is a brutal sport and is not for pansies. You have to make them tough not to get hurt. Emotions run high with a close rival game. Get over it, it's a game and a hard played game. Things are said in the heat of competition. I really don't see what was so wrong with what happened that we have to go as far as putting a letter in the coaches file. An apology would have seemed like enough to me. Sounds like over kill to satisfy certain people.
Not that I agree or disagree the point is it should have never happened to begin with. I understand that it is a very emotional sport. I understand that attitudes run hot. I understand that it is a brutal sport.
The point being is somebody has to keep their cool and I believe that job is on the “Head Coaches” shoulders. I don’t have anything against the man. I don’t know him or his family and have heard that he is very well respected by the students at the high school.
I just wonder where “Some Peoples Heads Are” (i.e. ORS Administration), you have a elementary school teacher that is let go, fired, brought up on charges or what ever you want to call it today for trying to keep order in her class room but you have a football coach that gets into a shouting/pushing match with another coach from a different team on the football field in front of the crowd and all that comes out of it is an apology and a formal reprimand.
I guess I really don’t know/understand the power of “School Politics” and guess I never will. They seem to be saying,”Don’t Fear Your Local Schools are in Control”. I just have to wonder what would have happened had it been a local parent or student that might have done it. It more than likely would have ended up at the local lock down, a couple Boards of Education taking on the offender in court, banning of a student/parent from setting foot on OR schools or Anderson County schools property ever again and any of the other gory details that I don’t know or over looked.

If Football is so brutal, why do they continually pat each other on the fanny? Help me understand.
